December | Turquoise

Turquoise is one of the three birthstones for the month of December along with Zircon and Tanzanite and one of the most beautiful minerals. This stunning gemstone’s intense colour ranges from dark to soft green blue. It often has veins of darker or lighter material running through it. Turquoise is the gem of the 11th wedding anniversary.

Turquoise is one of the world's oldest gems and one of the first gemstones known to man and mined. Formed best in dry climates, it is mined in southwestern United States, Mexico, Iran, Chile, China and Tibet.

The history of Turquoise is associated with many different people and cultures. Early Persians believed Turquoise represented the heavens because of its beautiful blue colour, they used it to cover the domes of palaces and places of worship. To the Tibetans, Turquoise is a national gem, viewed as the sky stone brought to earth by the heavens. In the 19th century, Turquoise was a traditional favorite of the Navajo tribe.

Metaphysical and healing properties

Turquoise has long been considered a stone that guarantees health, good fortune, and protection from evil. Many native Americans wore Turquoise for protection in battles. The Egyptians thought Turquoise brought good fortune.
